Some of our clients who are new to the internet world while waiting for the Organic SEO to do its magic ask us about Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising. What is PPC? Pay Per Click is sponsored advertising that is online. It is used by websites and search engines – and gets its name from the way the advertiser has to pay every time an online searcher clicks on their web ad.

PPC is a great way to get targeted traffic to your site while waiting on the Organic rankings.
PPC works like this. Advertisers put bids on the phrases or keywords that their customers are putting in to the Search field on the search engine page. When the results are returned PPC ads are usually shown at the top of the list and off to the right hand side of the listings. PPC ads are also placed on various websites in strategically placed spots to encourage clicking. They are placed according to the relevance of the ad to the website. For example – on a travel website you may see PPC advertisements for rental cars or luggage companies.

Search Engines usually tag PPC advertising with a notification that shows that they are “Sponsored Ads”. By doing so, they highlight the advertisers and once again – encourage clicking by the searcher.

PPC is a good idea and works for both the searcher and the advertisers. The advertisers get the targeted audience that they are looking for and they only get charged if the searcher likes what they see and click on their ad. Its direct marketing right to the people you want coming to your website. Hopefully once there they will purchase what you are offering.

The cost for PPC keywords range depending on the popularity of the keyword term or phrase. It’s all about the numbers of people who search for a keyword or phrase – the more popular the term the higher the PPC cost.
